The Ethiopian Statistical Service (ESS) has released its official
Monthly Inflation Report for January 2018 EFY,
indicating a significant decline in inflation across the national economy.

🔻 Headline Inflation
  • Year-on-year general inflation: 9.8%
    (Down from 16.9% in November 2017 EFY)
  • Month-on-month general inflation: –1.4%
    (Compared to –0.8% in November 2017 EFY)

🥗 Food & Non-Alcoholic Beverages

Major contributors:

  • Meat (13.8%)
  • Milk, Cheese and Eggs (14.8%)
  • Oils and Fats (14.0%)
  • Fruits (13.3%)
  • Sugar, jam, honey & chocolate (14.2%)
  • Vegetables (5.4%)
  • Bread and cereals (2.4%)

🏠 Non-Food Inflation

Non-food inflation stood at 9.0% year-on-year in January EFY 2018.

Key components:

  • Transport (17.1%)
  • Miscellaneous goods and services (19.4%)
  • Clothing and footwear (13.8%)
  • Restaurants and hotels (12.5%)
