Inflation in Ethiopia continues to ease as food prices rise more slowly
Ethiopia’s year-on-year inflation reached 13.2 percent in September EFY 2018,
down from 13.6 percent in August EFY 2018 and 17.5 percent in
September EFY 2017. Food inflation eased to 12.1 percent, as staple prices such as
bread and cereals declined slightly. At the same time, housing and transport costs continued to rise.
The latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) from the Ethiopian Statistics Service confirms that
overall inflation continues to ease compared to last year. Although prices remain elevated,
the rate of increase has moderated in several key spending categories.
