Report on Crop and Livestock Product Utilization Meher Season 2020/21 (2013 E.C.)

 

Crop and livestock product utilization, peasant farmers consume the overwhelming majority of their agricultural harvest, leaving limited surpluses for sale. At the national level, household consumption accounts for 59.3% of total grain production, while 25% is allocated for sale and 11.6% for seed. Utilization patterns vary significantly across crop categories and regions: cereals see 63.4% consumed at home, whereas oilseeds function predominantly as cash crops with 54.8% sold. Vegetables and root crops show high home-consumption rates of 73.5% and 68.4% respectively. Permanent crops are divided between 50.3% consumed domestically and 44.1% sold, though staple foods like Enset in the southern and western regions reach 75.8% for household consumption.
