Population Statistics CEO
The Population Statistics CEO is one of the core departments under ESS responsible for the collection and dissemination demographic and socio economic data by conducting Population and Housing Censes, Sample Surveys and from Administrative Data Sources.
Primary Objectives
The main objective of the CEO is to collect, compile and analyses high-quality, timely and reliable demographic and socio-economic statistics from Population and Housing Censuses, Sample Surveys, Administrative Data Sources and other public data sources using scientific methods and modern technology, and to provide the results to policy makers, researchers, governmental and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and other data users through user friendly data dissemination methods.
Roles and Responsibilities
- • Generate the country’s population by Regions, Zones, Weredas and Kebeles, by sex and age
- • Generate demographic characteristics and population dynamics (Fertility, Mortality, Migration) indicators,
- • Provide data on settlement, housing, type and condition, and other aspects of the social and economic characteristics of the population;
- • Provide data on the number and type of houses in the country, population density, population distribution, the number of people using modern waste disposal (dry/liquid) in cities, and the number of people with standard houses in cities;
- • Generate data showing the provision of water, electricity, toilets, etc., periodically.
- • Generate data showing the rate and type of migration of the country’s population, the distribution of cities in the country by region, zone and Woredas,
- • Generate data on population size and gender, age, education, health service institutions, type and number,
- • Conduct a standard, extensive and in-depth study and research (In-depth Analysis) by combining and correlating the demographic data collected,
- • Prepare and present a population projection indicating the future trends of the country’s population, composition and growth by region, zone, woreda and cities,
- • Collect and disseminate Demographic and Health indicators:
- • Fertility rate (in young people and women of childbearing age)
- • Family planning (contraceptive use)
- • Maternal and child health
- • Adult and child mortality
- • Maternal and child nutrition
- • Sexual violence (prevalence and types)
- • Public awareness of sexually transmitted diseases
- • HIV prevalence and rate
- • Female genital mutilation
- • Fistula
- • Tobacco use and
- Other types of data will be collected and made available to data users.
